BAER Testing

Brainstem Auditory Evoked Response

What is BAER Testing?

Brainstem auditory evoked a response (BAER) testing is used to detect electrical activity in the cochlea and auditory pathways in the brain.

How is the testing done?

A special computer collects responses through extremely small electrodes. Each ear is tested individually. The test is usually completed in 10-15 minutes.

Why should I have my dog tested?

The test is a reliable method for determining whether a dog is deaf and for measuring the extent of its hearing loss. The BAER test is ideal for identifying deafness in breeds predisposed to hearing loss.
